Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey has never been one to shy away from bold proclamations. In an interview on the 100 Thieves podcast Selfmade, Morey fired off a scintillating take on the Rockets’ MVP-level guard James Harden stating that The Beard is a better scorer than Michael Jordan in NBA history.

As you can see, Morey’s focus on the highest-efficiency shots in the league: at-rim attempts, three-pointers and free throws means he places tremendous value on Harden’s ability to generate good looks at all three of those shot attempt categories.

Of course, as one of the pioneers of the analytics movement among NBA front offices, Morey backs up that bold claim with plenty of evidence and statistics befitting an administrator known for coining the “Moreyball” movement with his personnel decisions.

Another area in which Morey is notable is his dedication to obtaining star players, which makes his comments all the more prescient as he has seen his fair share of superstars over the years in the NBA.

Of course, comparing anyone to Michael Jordan is often seen as heresy among NBA fans, though as NBA fans get younger and those that remember Jordan’s peak get older, the remembrance of his dominance might take a hit.

Statements like this from one of the general managers of one of the best current scorers in the NBA might also accelerate such a process.

For now, let’s simply appreciate the astonishing scoring prowess that both players possess and look forward to seeing the next great scorer in the NBA when he comes along.
