Houston Rockets veteran guard Eric Gordon shared his thoughts after the weeks-long James Harden drama finally ended. While most Rockets players felt that Harden disrespected them for his unprofessional antics, Gordon believes the former MVP was just craving for a new environment.
Gordon recalled how Harden seemed disinterested even during the offseason. He's aware of how much the superstar guard's request created instability within the organization, but now that it's finally over, Gordon said he's just focused on the Rockets' future (via Tim MacMahon of ESPN).
“Obviously, you could tell from the summer and since the season started that he didn't want to be here. For us, I think it just gives us a chance to (have) a real direction. Everyone else on the team can hone in and not worry about his situation. We can just move forward.”
After the Rockets' blowout loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, Harden claimed that the team just wasn't good enough. Understandably, this irked new teammates DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall who took shots at Harden. But for Gordon, Harden's teammate for four years, he completely understands The Beard's worries.
“For me, knowing him personally, I don't think he really meant it as far as disrespecting us. That's just for me. I think he just wanted a different situation. He's kind of shown that, and he also said it. I don't think he really meant to really disrespect the players, but he wanted his way out. And he got it.”
Eric Gordon sat out their game against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday due to lower leg soreness, but the Rockets tallied their first win in the post-Harden era with a 108-105 comeback victory.
