After a debacling offseason, the Houston Rockets appear to be set on entering the 2019-20 season in hopes of contending once more for a title. Eric Gordon echoed that sentiment during his press conference with reporters on Wednesday.

The 31-year old guard gave his thought process on the team's expectations along with all of that gossip that's surrounded former MVP James Harden and his trade rumors:

“Our core guys are still here,” said Gordon. “I still have high expectations going into the season, no matter what all the outside noise is.”

That noise referred to being the rumored displeasure of both Russell Westbrook and Harden coming into the offseason. There were heavy reports that both stars wanted out of Houston after a disappointing season in which they exited the 2020 playoffs in the second round at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers.

While it was heavily assumed that the front office would make some additional moves to better the co-stars' chances of success next season–which was the end result in the midst of all this madness– few expected both players to make it known of their desires to be moved. Harden was more of a shock than Westbrook, as he apparently had developed a wishlist of where he desired to go, with the Brooklyn Nets headlining the list.

“That’s a question you have to ask him,” stated Gordon in response to his belief in Harden's commitment to the team. “He’s still with our team, so I assume so.”

The Rockets will enter the season with uncertain predictions given the shakiness of their chemistry. They were however able to obtain both DeMarcus Cousins and Christian Wood, both of whom can fill a void of bigs going forward.
