This year is the best chance for Eric Gordon to win an NBA title. The road to the title is the most open it has ever been in recent memory, and the Houston Rockets have a shot with Russell Westbrook and James Harden at the helm.
He wants to help the team win their first NBA title since 1995 by becoming the league's best sharpshooter in the coming season.
He's approached by the media during the NBA Media day and was asked questions about the coming season. He understandably wants to become the best three-point shooter to help the Rockets win the Larry O'Brien trophy.
Per Chron.com's Jonathan Feigen:
“I definitely want to be the best 3-point shooter this year,” Gordon said. “I want to shoot at a high percentage. I want to hit more 3s than I have in the past. I think that will be great for our team because it will create a lot of easy lanes for James (Harden) and Russ (Westbrook).”
He also said that he's open to playing wherever Mike D'Antoni wants him to play if it means getting the W.
“I’m here to do whatever it takes to win,” Gordon said. “From Day 1 I sacrificed to come off the bench to see how good we can be. Last year, I did start off coming off the bench. But when I did start, we won a ton of games. I know coach told me I’m starting, but I’ve shown both ways I can do whatever. I’m here to win it all.
“It’s the same thing. When I start, I’m looking forward to guarding the best perimeter player. Nothing changes for me. It’s to be aggressive offensively, also.”
Gordon had a solid year with the Rockets, ending the year with nightly averages of 16.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists on 41% shooting and 36% from the three-point line.
He will have to beat outstanding shooters like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson before he can become the league's best sharpshooter. However, he's confident that he can manage that and more.
