Unrestricted free agent wing Gerald Green has reached an agreement with the Houston Rockets to re-sign with the franchise for one more year, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Green has been a part of the playoff-contending Rockets squad for the past two seasons. He’s averaged 10.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in 114 appearances, shooting 40.3 percent from the field, 36 percent from three-point range, and 84.4 percent from the free-throw line.
Green is known for his high-flying acrobatics—often being the recipient of lobs, alley-oops, and impressive dunks. He’s another depth piece for the Rockets, who have been searching for a third pair to join James Harden and Chris Paul in Houston.
One of those names could be Jimmy Butler, who has also been heavily pursued by the Miami Heat. General manager Daryl Morey wishes to engage in a sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers to acquire the unrestricted free agent shooting guard Butler. Houston would likely have to part with one or more of Eric Gordon, P.J. Tucker, and Clint Capela to sign another max-worthy elite free agent like Butler.
Green, 33, was drafted by the Boston Celtics with the 18th overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. He went to high school in Houston, Texas (Gulf Shores Academy), and prior to playing with Clutch City, Green competed with the Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, and Brooklyn Nets, among other teams.
