The start of Chris Paul’s debut season with the Houston Rockets was unfortunately interrupted by a knee injury he suffered in the very first game of the season. But with the veteran point guard back, the Rockets have quickly become the scary title contender many anticipated they’d be when he landed in Houston this offseason.
According to Bleacher Report’s Kelly Scaletta, the Rockets are No. 1 in the NBA in both offensive and defensive efficiency since Paul’s return six games ago.
The Rockets weren’t exactly having much difficulty winning games without Paul, but it’s nonetheless been impressive how easily they’ve been steamrolling past teams with CP3 back in the lineup. They’ve won all six of their games in which he’s played upon his return, with an average margin of victory of 21 points per game.
This six-game stretch is the best-case scenario the Rockets hoped for when they acquired Paul from the L.A. Clippers. Their already prolific offense led by James Harden gets even better with the addition of another all-world orchestrator like Paul.
Meanwhile, his All-Defensive First Team-caliber ability — coupled with the signings of Luc Mbah a Moute and P.J. Tucker — significantly improve the team’s main weakness.
Paul’s health will be the main concern for the Rockets moving forward, but right now, the Rockets are proving they are legitimate title contenders who can play both ends very well when he's on the court.
