Houston Rockets star point guard Russell Westbrook is dealing with dislocated fingers in his right hand.

Westbrook, who looked rusty in the preseason since he wasn’t able to run or play 5-on-5 in the summer due to two offseason surgeries, will play in the Rockets' season opener on Thursday at home against the Milwaukee Bucks.

By all accounts, the Rockets don't seem to be concerned about Westbrook's finger injury, via Kelly Iko of The Athletic:

“He’s a bit behind because he didn’t get to play this summer,” Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni said.

“Russ looked good, he hasn’t been able to play basketball this summer,” star James Harden said. “Just getting to his rhythm and his basketball shape. We got two really good days of practice ahead of us, and get ready for Thursday.”

“If you’re going to have an injury, your finger is the best one to have,” a team executive said.

Westbrook had a minor procedure on his surgically repaired right knee after the 2019 playoffs ended. He also had surgery on his left hand to repair a torn ligament in his finger.

Last season for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook averaged a triple-double for the third consecutive season. The former MVP put up 22.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game while shooting 42.8 percent from the field, 29.0 percent from beyond the arc and 65.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Once Westbrook gets his timing back, he’ll be fine. Westbrook is one of the fastest players in the NBA. He’s a blur in the open court, impossible to stay in front of and can get to the rim at will while finishing in heavy traffic.
