The Houston Rockets acquired guard Dennis Schroder from the Boston Celtics at the NBA's trade deadline. Immediately after Schroder was acquired, speculation began about the franchise's real plan with the 28-year-old, who doesn't exactly fit timeline-wise with the young, rebuilding Rockets. With the NBA's buyout deadline approaching, the Rockets revealed their plan for Schroder, via Marc Stein.

Per Stein, Dennis Schroder is “on course” to finish the season with the Rockets. Neither Schroder nor the Rockets have any interest in a buyout.

Were the Rockets to execute a buyout with a contender, they would need to release Schroder before March 1, so as to ensure his eligibility for the playoffs. However, it seems like Houston will play out the remainder of their season with the former Celtics guard on their roster.

What they ultimately decide to do with Schroder this offseason remains to be seen. The 28-year-old is averaging 14.2 points, 4.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.3 made three-pointers per game. He figures to continue starting for the Rockets, though it will be interesting to see what the team decides to do when young guard Kevin Porter Jr. returns from injury.

What seemed like an unlikely partnership between Schroder and Houston seems likely to last through the remainder of the regular season.
