The Atlanta Hawks have signed free-agent point guard Isaiah Taylor to a two-year deal, The Vertical’s Shams Charania reports.

Taylor, 23, was recently cut along with Tim Quarterman, George de Paula, and Chris Johnson by the Houston Rockets to reduce their roster size ahead of the regular season.

Taylor played four regular season games last season with the Rockets after going undrafted out of Texas last year. However, he spent most of his time with their G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Taylor earned NBA D-League All-Rookie Team honors with the Vipers after averaging 21.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in 25 games. He also shot an impressive 51 percent from the field and 46 percent from beyond the arc.

That impressive performance earned Taylor a three-year, non-guaranteed contract with Houston. However, the Rockets opted not to retain him for this season and will now have just Bobby Brown playing backup point guard behind Chris Paul.

For the Hawks, Taylor looks like a decent low-risk, high-ceiling signing with the potential he's flashed. He will fill their opening spot on their 15-man roster this season. Taylor should also get the opportunity to play behind starting point guard Dennis Schroder this season if he can outplay incumbent backup, Malcolm Delaney.
