Houston Rockets star James Harden has recently been drawing some comparisons to NBA legend Oscar Robertson, and, as one would expect, Harden is digging it.

“That's what I play for,” Harden told reporters, according to Ben Spratt of Sporting News. “That's what you play the game of basketball for, to be mentioned by name with the greats.”

On the year, Harden is averaging a league-leading 33.0 points per game to go along with 8.2 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 2.1 steals over 36.8 minutes a night while shooting 44.2 percent from the floor, 38.3 percent from 3-point range and 85.4 percent from the free-throw line.

“Obviously, I have a long way to go, but that's what I put my jersey on for, that's what I lace my shoes up for, to go out there and be the best that I can be and, when it's all said and done, be mentioned as one of the best basketball players to ever touch a basketball,” said Harden.

The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player seems to be getting better and better and is aiming for back-to-back scoring titles. Last year, he paced the league with 30.4 points per game.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate basketball at Arizona State University, was originally selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the third overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft.

However, due to financial constraints, the Thunder could not afford to keep Harden along with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, so, right before the onset of the 2012-13 campaign, Oklahoma City traded Harden to the Rockets.

Harden has made the All-Star team every year since then.
