James Harden continues his year of the NBA.
The league on Friday named the Houston Rockets star as the Western Conference Player of the Month. He has scored at least 20 points in the first 21 games of the season so far, and it's the fifth time he's received the award — all as a member of Houston.
Harden has averaged 31.5, 9.8 rebounds and 5.2 rebounds this year, according to Basketball Reference.
The fact that Harden has been named player of the month only in his time in Houston is incredible. Many railed against the Oklahoma City Thunder when they decided to trade him a few years ago rather than paying him the salary he wanted.
But Harden has shined as a member of the Rockets. He's averaged at least 25 points per game in all five years in Houston, and this year is his best statistical year by far.
He's finished second in the MVP race to Golden State's Stephen Curry in 2015. Over the past three years, he's made a very strong case that he deserves to win the MVP award.
With this first win, Harden is again making a strong case to be named MVP at the end of the season. LeBron James is lurking, but this very well could be Harden's year.
