The Houston Rockets have officially signed veteran small forward Jeff Green for the remainder of the season.

Green initially signed a 10-day contract with the Rockets, giving him a chance to become comfortable with the fit in Houston before committing to a deal for the rest of the season:

Green is averaging 9.8 points and 3.5 rebounds with the Rockets in 19.3 minutes per contest. He is shooting 70.0 percent from the field and 61.5 percent from beyond the arc in the four games he has played with Houston.

The Rockets added DeMarre Carroll and Green to bolster their defense in the wake of the Clint Capela trade. Houston now has PJ Tucker, Robert Covington, Carroll and Green as its wing defenders. The Rockets will need those guys to defend big guys in the post once the playoffs start.

Green, who played in the 2018 NBA Finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaged 7.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 30 games for the Utah Jazz this season before getting cut. The 33-year-old forward has career NBA averages of 13.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 894 games with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Boston Celtics, Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers, Orlando Magic, Cavaliers, Washington Wizards, Jazz and Rockets.

Green played with Rockets stars James Harden and Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City. The Rockets are 38-20 on the season. They are in fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
