John Wall could have rejoined the Washington Wizards during the NBA restart, if he really wanted to push the envelope.

The Houston Rockets point guard said during an interview with Kelly Iko of The Athletic he could have done on-court work even before the coronavirus pandemic began as he rehabbed from a torn Achilles. Wall added he would have been game-ready shortly thereafter.

However, Wall stated he wanted to feel fully healthy before making his return:

“Well, I was already ready to come back on the court before the pandemic,” John Wall said. “I could have played last season around the All-Star break or even in the bubble. But I wanted to wait until I felt I was 110 percent to be back where I wanted to be. That’s what I did and that’s why I’m getting off to a good start this season.”

John Wall was not the only one taking precautions. The Wizards consistently stated they would not rush their All-Star point guard back into action. With Bradley Beal not taking part in the NBA restart, it made even less sense to send Wall to Orlando.

Of course, things have changed quite a bit since the summer.

Washington dealt Wall to the Rockets after he demanded a trade. The 30-year-old was subsequently thrown into the middle of a calamitous situation amid James Harden's own demands. But Wall is back in action and hoping to keep the Rockets in the playoff picture.

John Wall is averaging 17.1 points, 5.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds through his first eight games. He missed each of the team's previous five games prior to taking the floor during Saturday's win over the Dallas Mavericks. Wall scored seven points and dished out eight assists in just under 21 minutes of run.

The former Wizards star is set to meet his old team for the first time on Tuesday night.
