While Houston Rockets head coach Mike D'Antoni admits center Clint Capela didn't play well in the second round series against the Golden State Warriors, he knows his big man is “only going to get better.”
Capela averaged 8.8 points and 10.0 rebounds in the six-game series versus the Warriors. He shot 53.5 percent from the field, but had a negative plus/minus box score in four out of the six games.
D'Antoni, though, is sticking by Capela's side and says the Rockets are excited about the 24-year-old's future in the league.
“Clint was huge during the regular season, he played great,” D’Antoni said, via Kelly Iko of The Athletic. “Against Utah he played great, but I thought this series, not quite as well. But that’s a tribute to Draymond Green as well.
“(Clint) is a classy guy. He’ll learn from this, he’ll only get better. He’s only 25, he’ll get stronger. The expectations are high for him. I think he was a little below his normal stats. Could’ve been better, but I’ll go down with guys like that.”
Capela got bashed by Rockets fans and experts on social media all series. People were expecting more from Capela since he signed a lucrative $90 million deal with Houston last summer.
Capela has to work on his post moves this offseason. Right now, he's too dependent on James Harden and Chris Paul. The Rockets are paying Capela $14.9 million next season. He should be able to create a shot for himself if he's making that much money.
