Houston Rockets head coach Mike D'Antoni is happy that James Harden is a finalist for the 2019 NBA Most Valuable Player award, but he is quite disappointed that one of his players did not get any recognition this season. D'Antoni feels bad that Rockets forward PJ Tucker failed to make it into the elite circle of defenders in the league this season. D'Antoni believes that Tucker deserves to be included in the 2019 NBA All-Defensive Team this year. The veteran coach said that his player was robbed of the citation for the second consecutive year.
“He should have made it last year,” D'Antoni said via Mark Berman of Fox 26 Sports Houston. “Not a great system on voting. He definitely deserves to be on there. I’m sure there’s other guys that deserve to be on there.”
Tucker is considered by many as the best defender in the offensive-minded system of the Rockets. The 34-year-old is often tasked to contain the best player of the opposing team. It is also worth noting that the veteran forward averaged a career-high 1.6 steals this season.
The league named Rudy Gobert, Paul George, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Marcus Smart, and Eric Bledsoe into the NBA All-Defensive First Team this season. Jrue Holiday, Klay Thompson, Joel Embiid, Draymond Green, and Kawhi Leonard composed the 2019 NBA All-Defensive Second Team.
