Mike D'Antoni has taken a lot of heat over the years for being a stubborn coach and seeming stuck in his ways, something that many coaches are accused of over the years. He has also been a coach that puts most of his marbles on the offensive end of the floor.

In addition, he believes the team needs to get up a lot of shots, and three-pointers in a game to be successful.

A few days ago D'Antoni opened up about a lot of things to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, but he really hit home about how he didn't feel like he was a stubborn coach.

“I'm sure I could do something here pretty soon that can make somebody think I'm crazy,” D'Antoni said. “I just had a way I thought we should play and tried to stick to my guns all the way through, although I've taken some hits. You got to carry on.

“I'd rather hide out with the masses. I just didn't think that was the right way to go. I never have. As a player, as a young coach, as an old coach, I just think it's the way to play. Now, we're going even further than what I even thought. We're taking a lot of 3s. You just try to make sure you're on the right path and then go for it, not deviate because it doesn't work today.

Mike D'Antoni's “stubborn” style of play seems to be working with his new team though. He has the Houston Rockets sitting in first place in the Western Conference at the All-Star break.
