Rockets’ Mike D’Antoni says Chris Paul will be ‘sorely missed’
D’Antoni had nothing but praises for Paul, expressing gratitude to the superstar playmaker for his two-year stint in Houston. The veteran head coach said that the 34-year-old point guard did a lot for him and the franchise.
“I want to thank Chris and what he did for the organization and for me personally,” D’Antoni said via Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. “He’s going to be sorely missed.”
Paul was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of the deal that sent superstar guard Russell Westbrook to the Rockets. In the said deal, the Thunder also acquired a 2024 and a 2026 first-round pick along with two pick swaps.
The blockbuster trade ended Paul’s stint with the franchise he led to two successful seasons. The savvy playmaker almost helped the Rockets advance to the 2018 NBA Finals, where they took a 3-2 lead over the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals before the defending champions took the last two games of the series.
It remains to be seen whether or not Oklahoma City will be Paul’s final destination, as he is currently being linked to the Miami Heat. Before playing for the Rockets, he also had six-year stint in New Orleans, and a six-year stint with the Los Angeles Clippers.
