It was already reported that the Houston Rockets are trying to get the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft from the Detroit Pistons, and The Athletic's Sham Charania is throwing more fuel on that fire with his latest report. However, Shams is reporting the Rockets' interest in another trade as well, noting discussions involving Eric Gordon.

Houston is in the midst of a rebuild after trading James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets earlier this season, so both of these trade ideas make sense. Of course the Rockets would love to get to No. 1 in order to draft Cade Cunningham, who would hopefully be their next star. Whether the Pistons are willing to play ball remains to be seen, and the assumption is it would take quite the haul for a trade to go down. Houston has the No. 2 pick and could settle on Jalen Green, Evan Mobley or Jalen Suggs if there's no deal.

As for Gordon, he's a veteran on a relatively expensive deal who would surely love to go elsewhere to play for a team with a better chance of contending. The Rockets guard is set to make $18.2 million in 2021-22 and $19.6 million in 2022-23 before a non-guaranteed $20.9 million season in 2023-24.

It was recently reported that the Indiana Pacers were looking for win-now help for new head coach Rick Carlisle, with the No. 13 pick dangling as bait. Perhaps the Rockets could look there for Gordon, who was born and raised in Indiana before playing his one season of college ball in Bloomington.

Eric Gordon averaged 17.8 points, 2.6 assists and 2.1 rebounds in just 27 games in 2020-21. He shot 43.3% from the field and 32.9% from 3-point range. Injuries have really hampered him in recent years.
