Even though the Houston Rockets are expected to sign Carmelo Anthony to a cap-friendly veteran’s minimum worth just $2.4 million and have signed Clint Capela to a new contract, the team is still seemingly looking for ways to create some breathing space in their salary cap room. One way to do that is to rid themselves of Ryan Anderson and his onerous contract.

It was earlier reported that the Atlanta Hawks could be a willing trade partner in such a deal, one that will likely see the Rockets taking Kent Bazemore in return and giving up a future draft pick. Meanwhile, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN, the Rockets have also ventured out into a different channel, reaching out to the Miami Heat in hopes of unloading Anderson (h/t Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints).

The remaining salaries of Bazemore and Johnson do not differ by much. Bazemore has two years left of guaranteed salary worth $18.08 million in 2018-19 and $19.26 million in 2019-20 (player option). Johnson, on the other hand, is set to earn $19.24 million in each of the next two seasons before becoming an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020. Either player, however, carries a cheaper price tag than Ryan Anderson, who will set his team back $41.68 million over the next two seasons.

Anderson regressed last year, as he played in only 66 games and averaged just 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest.
