Russell Westbrook and John Wall are both seeking a change of scenery from, respectively, the Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards.

The veteran stars are in the latter part of their primes, each with notable red-flags and almost identical albatross contracts.

It makes sense, then, that a Wizards-Rockets blockbuster could be in the works.

According to The Athletic, trade talks between the two sides have currently “stalled” due to Washington's unwillingness to include draft picks, but that could soon change, according to Rockets beat writer Kelly Iko.

“I’d give it a 50-50 chance,” Iko said of a Westbrook-Wall swap. “With the state of uncertainty surrounding the Rockets’ two best players, you really can’t rule anything out. Wall for Westbrook would be a pretty clean swap cap-wise, and James Harden and Wall have a good relationship … I think the deal becomes much more likely if the Rockets receive the sort of draft compensation they’re looking for, recouping some of what they lost in the Chris Paul trade.”

Wall and Westbrook are each owed about $131.5 million over the next three seasons, with the third year coming in the form of a $46 million player option.

Westbrook, 32, is two years older than Wall, but Wall's injury history is more concerning.

Westbrook made the All-NBA third team in 2019-20, but his declining athleticism and shooting struggles don't project his game favorably going forward.

Wall hasn’t played since a surgery to remove bone spurs from his heel two years ago, which he underwent shortly before he tore his Achilles. The five-time All-Star may need to show the league what he can do on the court to establish his trade value.

Multiple teams are reserving cap space for the stacked free agency class of 2021, which limits the market for both players.
