Colorado Rockies superstar third baseman Nolan Arenado now has a 50 percent chance of getting traded this winter, according to Jon Morosi of MLB.com, and at least six teams have shown interest in acquiring the seven-time Gold Glove Award winner:

The chances of a Nolan Arenado trade this offseason have climbed to around 50 percent, multiple sources told MLB.com in recent days.

One source said that as many as a half-dozen teams are in contact with the Rockies regarding the possibility of an Arenado trade. The Braves, Rangers and Nationals are believed to be among the group. The Cubs also loom as a possible suitor, especially if they trade former National League MVP Kris Bryant in a move to obtain young pitching.

Morosi also noted that the Rockies will not trade him to the Dodgers or any other team in the National League West. Thus the Dodgers, who at one point showed interest in Anthony Rendon, are out of the running.

Arenado is unquestionably one of the best third basemen in the league. The 28-year-old hit at least 37 homers in each of the last five seasons, and he finished 2019 with the highest OPS (.962) of his career.

However, the Rockies are looking to slash payroll and reload their farm system after a disappointing 71-91 season in 2019. Arenado also has an opt-out after the 2021 season, which he could capitalize on should he continue to produce at his current levels.

All these factors — not to mention the sheer volume of teams needing to plug holes at the hot corner — make Arenado one of the more intriguing names to watch throughout the rest of the offseason as the Rockies mull over whether or not they want to deal away their franchise star so soon after signing him to an extension.
