When Ron Rivera took the head coaching job for the Washington Redskins, he understood that turning around the franchise wasn't going to happen overnight. Ahead of his first offseason with the Redskins, Rivera admits one big problem that Washington has right now (via JP Finlay in NBC Sports Washington),

“Do we have our tight end? Probably not,” Rivera said. “That’s a big question mark.”

Of course, this statement stems from a couple of variables that have taken place. This past Sunday, Vernon Davis chose to retire from the NFL at the age of 36. Davis spent the past four seasons with the Redskins and started in 39 games for them.

Aside from Davis retiring, Washington is also unsure of what Jordan Reed's future entails. Reed has been hampered by injuries in his career and he missed the entire 2019 season with a concussion. Altogether, Reed has been sidelined for 47 games in his six years in the NFL.

Due to his injury woes, the Redskins will need to address the tight end position in the offseason. Sometime this week, Greg Olsen is scheduled to meet with the Redskins. Nearly a week ago, Olsen and the Carolina Panthers decided to part ways after nine years with the organization.

Despite turning 35 years old in March, Olsen has shown an interest in returning to the NFL in 2020. However, it appears that Olsen is interested in playing for someone like Rivera—Olsen's head coach from 2011-19 with the Panthers.

Even if Olsen does sign with the Redskins, Washington needs to add another tight end into the mix. Over the course of his career, Rivera is known to be honest and he's showing that he isn't afraid to continue that trend with the Redskins.
