The Kansas City Royals have watched veteran catcher Salvador Perez post a remarkable season this year and mash all types of home runs. On Monday, Perez finally did it and hit his 46th home run of the season to pass Johnny Bench for most by a catcher in a single season.

The Royals All-Star is having a monster season, now posting 46 home runs with 114 RBIs and writing his name in MLB record books for quite some time. Johnny Bench, the legendary backstop, held the record all the way until now and Perez has done the unthinkable.

The Royals as a team have suffered a disappointing season, but the late surge by Perez has given Royals fans and everybody else a reason to watch, and there is a shot he could hit 50 before the season comes to an end.

For the record, Perez is miles ahead of the second catcher on the home runs list for the 2021 campaign.

Even more surprising is the fact that Perez is now tied with Toronto Blue Jays star Vlad Guerrerro Jr. for most home runs in all of baseball, with two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani right behind him.

The remarkable feat by Salvador Perez has finally been accomplished, and the watch for 50 is on!
