Something may be brewing and speculation is leaning towards the idea that Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters is on the trade block.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is speculating that recent moves have already tipped the Chiefs' official hand in terms of their talented young cover-corner.

“With the Chiefs adding veteran cornerback David Amerson and, officially in three weeks, acquiring cornerback Kendall Fuller as part of the Alex Smith trade, some in league circles are wondering whether the Chiefs will be making another transaction involving a cornerback.

The question being asked is whether Marcus Peters, a first-round pick in 2015, is available in trade.”

Peters, 25, has been an excellent three-year pro since drafted as the 18th overall pick back in 2005. He's been voted to two Pro Bowls and even finished as a First-Team All-Pro corner once (2016), a season that saw him snag six interceptions in 15 games while making his name known as one of the top few best cover-corners in the game.

Since 2016, an entirely different story has unfolded.

As Florio cites, trouble on and off the field has followed Peters. This past season was, by far, the youngster's worst as a pro. He did snag five interceptions but was also beaten plenty, making it the only season he missed out on the Pro Bowl.

A moment last year in which he attempted to get himself ejected from a game along with a very heated fight with a coach may just push the Chiefs over the edge.

Peters is currently entering the fourth-year of his rookie four-year deal, subject to a fifth-year (team option). Whether it's the Chiefs or another organization who holds the rights to the talented youngster, early May is the deadline to decide on that fifth-year (2019).
