Perhaps no single player has generated as much trade buzz as New York Mets star Noah Syndergaard in recent weeks.

However, it appears that the man nicknamed “Thor” is most likely staying with the Mets. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Syndergaard was pulled from the trade market:

Last week, the Mets had expressed a desire to move Syndergaard prior to the trade deadline. However, the team has continued to insist on acquiring big-league talent in return, which seems to be hampering negotiations with a number of teams:

The Mets had seemed to be having an increasing amount of discussions with the San Diego Padres, who have arguably the top farm system in baseball and also had the leverage of possessing a number of productive outfielders on the roster.

However, the Mets have more need for a centerfielder than a corner outfielder, and the Padres already dealt Franmil Reyes to the Cleveland Indians as part of a three-team deal centered around Indians ace Trevor Bauer.

As such, USA Today MLB reporter Bob Nightengale said that talks between the two sides have effectively come to an end:

Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen completely upended the market by trading for Toronto Blue Jays ace Marcus Stroman. Whereas the Mets were considered likely sellers at the deadline, Van Wagenen's aggressive play for Stroman signaled a desire to try to compete in 2020, if not this season.

The Mets are only five games back of a Wild Card spot entering play on Wednesday, and their desire to remain competitive through next season would seem to imply that Syndergaard will be sticking around.
