Even the best of dunkers have had their fair share of blunders, and the Oklahoma City Thunder‘s athletic superstar Russell Westbrook is no exception to the rule.

The 6-foot-3 guard was set to get an easy two at the rim after a pass from Kyle Singler during a fast break, but was met by the rim while attempting to throw it down during Monday's 114-109 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Check it out.

Ouch!

If it's any consolation, the play should not have counted to begin with. Notice the obvious carrying violation by Singler when crossing from his right hand to his left when he noticed the initial pass to Westbrook wasn't available. But again, this is the NBA, where plenty of these plays are often a play-on.

Russell Westbrook did have some shining moments in his 24-minute outing, finishing with 12 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and a steal. None sweeter than this little nugget in transition.

Layup game strong, Russ.
