With this year's NFL trade deadline rapidly approaching, one thing remains certain—Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick definitely still has something left in the tank.

Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback and 2020 first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa recently was named the new starter under center in Miami, making it entirely possible that the Dolphins look to trade the legendary “Fitzmagic” over the course of the next week.

Even though Fitzpatrick has served as an impeccable mentor for the up-and-coming Tagovailoa, the veteran signal-caller still holds some serious value and can no doubt help more than a few teams around the league. With Tagovailoa now the bona fide starter in Miami, there is no looking back to Fitzpatrick for the Dolphins as the journeyman quarterback could soon be suiting up for his latest NFL franchise.

Despite his age, as Fitzpatrick will turn 38 years old in late November, the longtime NFL quarterback has already led a middling Dolphins team to an even 3-3 record. Not only did Fitzpatrick successfully bridge the gap for Tagovailoa while simultaneously serving as his mentor, but he also put the AFC East franchise in a legitimate position to make a push toward the postseason down the stretch.

Proving his worth through the first six weeks of the 2020 regular season, it will be interesting to see if Fitzpatrick ultimately departs Miami or sticks around to continue to assist Tagovailoa as he begins his tenure as the Dolphins starting quarterback.

1. Dallas Cowboys

As it stands today, the Dallas Cowboys serve as the most obvious answer in terms of potential landing spots for Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Unfortunately for the struggling Cowboys, Dallas lost franchise quarterback Dak Prescott to a season-ending leg injury several weeks ago while former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton has since been unable to get the job done down in Texas.

Adding to the misery in Dallas, Dalton is currently in the league's concussion protocol after taking a massive—and illegal—hit from Washington Football Team linebacker Jon Bostic in Week 7. On the other hand, though, the Cowboys do play in the NFC East, which has quickly become the league's worst division. Because Washington, the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants only have five wins between them with Week 8 of the 2020 regular looming large, the Cowboys are still very much in the thick of the present playoff picture with the possible addition of Fitzpatrick potentially going a very long way for owner Jerry Jones and company.

2. New York Jets

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has already suited up for the rival New York Jets while spending the 2015 and 2016 campaigns in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Could Fitzmagic make a return to Gang Green before this year's NFL trade deadline passes?

There is actually only scenario in which such a move would make sense as the Jets have been rumored to be shopping current starting quarterback and former first-round draft pick Sam Darnold. If the Jets, a team that has yet to win a single game this time around, ultimately manages to ship Darnold out of town, then a move to reclaim Fitzpatrick could make some sense as New York continues to have a real shot at attaining the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

If the Jets go all in on losing this season, which is a very real possibility, trading away Darnold before securing the No. 1 overall pick and eventually Clemson Tigers standout quarterback Trevor Lawrence would make some sense. Fitzpatrick can then bridge the gap between Darnold and Lawrence through the end of the 2020 season while also encountering yet another starting job atop the highest level.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars are a total and utter disaster at the moment while the lowly AFC South franchise can currently use all the help it can get. Despite being only a few seasons removed from an appearance in the AFC Championship Game, everything quickly imploded for a Jaguars team that was ever so briefly on the rise.

With the team electing to turn to second-year quarterback Gardner Minshew II under center in 2020, something that has not panned out all that well after the former Washington State signal-caller bursted onto the scene a season ago, Jacksonville is once again in position to find its next quarterback of the future. With only one win on the season thus far, the Jaguars figure to pick pretty high in the first round of the 2021 draft as a QB would be the most likely choice for such a selection.

However, the Jaguars can still use a mentor for Minshew in the meantime, whether he remains the starter moving forward or not. In that case, taking a flyer on Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick for the rest of the year wouldn't be the worst idea—which would also help steer the culture in that locker room in the right direction, if nothing else.
