The New Orleans Saints are trending towards being one of the legitimate contenders in the NFC for yet another season under Sean Payton. While Drew Brees is considered to be the heart and soul of the team, Brees is very complimentary of Demario Davis' leadership, per ESPN's Mike Triplett.

“He’s got a presence and a way about him that guys really respect,” said Brees, who gave his blessing when Davis asked to lead the Saints’ pregame huddle when Brees was away from the team following thumb surgery in Week 3.

“He’s just a great teammate, a great human being,” Brees said of Davis. “We know what he stands for on and off the field. So having a guy like that who backs it all up with the way he plays and the way he speaks and the way he prepares, it’s great.”

The Saints signed Davis as a free agent before the 2018 season began. The veteran linebacker immediately made his presence felt with 110 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, and two forced fumbles in his first year in New Orleans.

As for this year, Davis has continued to be the anchor of the Saints' defense. At 30 years old, Davis is still playing some of his best football with 69 tackles, seven tackles for loss, eight deflections, and an interception.

Above all, Davis is an outstanding leader in the locker room and commands the respect of his teammates. Unlike some players who speak to their teams, Davis also backs up what he says by performing well on the field.

Without a doubt, the entire team rallies behind their true quarterback in Brees each and every week. But at the same time, they also benefit from having a quarterback-like figure on defense in Davis.
