The New Orleans Saints made a major addition to their running game during the NFL offseason by signing veteran back Adrian Peterson. The future Hall of Famer has joined forces with Drew Brees in New Orleans making for a potentially potent one-two punch for the Saints.

Unfortunately for Saints fans, it remains uncertain whether Peterson will make his debut with his new team during the preseason. Peterson talked about his playing status on Thursday, via Josh Katzenstein of NOLA.com.

“I'll talk with coach when that time comes,” Peterson said Thursday after joint practices with the Chargers. “And if they say, ‘Hey, we're rolling,' we're rolling.' If not, it is what it is.”

Peterson not playing in the NFL preseason or seeing significant time on the field ahead of the regular season isn't anything new. The 32-year-old hasn't played in a preseason game since 2013, and he only had two carries in that game for the Minnesota Vikings.

Last week, the Saints faced the Cleveland Browns with six players recording at least one carry for New Orleans. Daniel Lasco got the bulk of carries with seven for 24 yards followed by Travaris Cadet (6), Darius Victor (5), and Alvin Kamara (4). New Orleans fell to the Browns, 20-14.

During the regular season, the Saints will likely go with a combination of Peterson and Mark Ingram coming out of the backfield. The two-headed monster of these two talented running backs could make New Orleans' ground game a force to be reckoned with along with Brees' always prolific passing attack.

On Sunday, the Saints will go head-to-head against the Los Angeles Chargers on the road at the StubHub Center.
