There has been plenty of speculation regarding the uncertain future of New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara after he was reportedly made available for trade. With the start of the 2020 NFL season just over a week away, it appears they finally managed to get on the same page.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Kamara met with head coach Sean Payton and is expected to return to practice:

This is certainly an encouraging update for New Orleans given all the had transpired as of late. Although Alvin Kamara had been in attendance at the facility, he was holding out of training camp during the ongoing negotiations. While there has not been much reported headway on his new deal, it seems the talks with Payton were enough to at least get him back to practice.

Rumors started to swirl about the Saints potentially seeking a first-round pick in exchange for Kamara. This reportedly came as a surprise to his camp since they were all in on securing a long-term deal. However, it remains to be seen whether or not they are willing to meet his lucrative price tag that is expected to be in the same range as Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey.

Kamara is slated to play out the final year of his rookie deal with a base salary of $2.13 million if negotiations ultimately fall through. Fortunately, his looming return to practice is a promising sign that some progress was made.

Otherwise, he could be preparing to show that there are other teams willing to pay him top dollar next offseason.
