The New Orleans Saints and Alvin Kamara were working toward getting a deal done before the season began, and both sides reached an agreement on Saturday. According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Kamara is finalizing a five-year, $75 million contract extension with New Orleans.

Merely minutes before Kamara inked his deal with the Saints, Dalvin Cook of the Minnesota Vikings signed a five-year deal. Cook's extension with Minnesota will be worth $62.5 million and included a $15.5 million signing bonus.

Not long ago, Alvin Kamara logged a few absences from practice and his absences were believed to be contract related. As a result, rumors were rampant, with reports stating that New Orleans would be willing to trade Kamara. However, the Pro Bowl running back denied the rumors and returned to the team after having a conversation with Sean Payton.

Despite denying the reports, it was revealed that Kamara's camp was looking for a contract in the same ballpark as Christian McCaffrey. Earlier this offseason, McCaffrey became the highest-paid running back in NFL history with a four-year, $64 million extension.

As for Alvin Kamara, he receives a new deal that will net him $15 million annually. At the same time, he'll be getting $34.3 million in guarantees, which is the most among running backs in the league.

In his first three seasons with the Saints, Kamara has proven to be one of the most lethal dual-threat running backs in the NFL. While Kamara absolutely deserves the deal he just got, New Orleans is going to have to make some tough contract decisions moving forward given the cap situation they are currently in.
