There are very few players more important to their teams than second-year running back Alvin Kamara is for the New Orleans Saints. Even though the team has Drew Brees and Michael Thomas, Kamara is the best big-play threat that the Saints have. He is also one of the best dual-threat running backs in the NFL.

According to a report from Josh Katzenstein of The Times-Picayune, Kamara was limited in practice on Friday as the team prepares for their Week 5 matchup with the Washington Redskins.

Kamara has been the Saints' featured back so far this season due to the suspension that the NFL handed down to Mark Ingram. This week, Ingram will return to action. New Orleans could not be more excited to get their “Thunder and Lightning” backfield back together.

In the first four games of the 2018 season, Kamara handled the featured back role well. He carried the football 56 times for 275 yards and five touchdowns. Kamara also has 35 receptions for 336 yards and a touchdown.

New Orleans has started the season a bit slow. They are 3-1 on the season, but the team as a whole simply has not been quite as dominant as many had expected.

Washington may not be a Super Bowl contender this season, but Alex Smith and company are not a pushover. If the Saints want to handle this game the way they should, Kamara playing will be a major key. New Orleans needs him on the field both as a running back and a receiver.

If he is forced to miss, Ingram will be the featured back, and Sean Payton will likely run a pass-heavy offense. Brees is more than capable of powering his team to wins, but having Kamara makes things much easier.
