It was announced on Sunday that the NFL plans to move forward with plans to change the amount of games played for each team in the regular season from 16 to 17. It may seem minute, but to many players the move makes an already grueling 16-game season that much harder. Naturally, player reaction will start flowing in. It's fair to say Saints running back Alvin Kamara is not too thrilled:

Alvin Kamara's second tweet to teammate Cameron Jordan is especially interesting. Is he planning a boycott or something?

The move comes as a money grab for the league even though it may be deflected as being something else. But there is no competitive reason to add a 17th game to the regular-season schedule and there was no clamoring for it for any other reason. It's the money, so let's call a spade a spade.

Another alternative that has been suggested that may gain more steam is the need to add a second bye week for each team throughout the schedules since the extra game will be added, extending out the regular season.

For fans, looking at some of the added games for 2021 makes it hard to not get excited about the addition, even if players like Alvin Kamara are not:

While this is not confirmed, it's expected to be soon enough. Packers at Chiefs. Cardinals at Browns. Rams at Ravens. Buccaneers at Colts. Just to name a few. So for the fans, this is great. Trim up the preseason and extend the regular season with some great matchups and everyone is happy … except some of the players. Expect Alvin Kamara's response to be part of the norm as more and more players may speak out on the disadvantages of adding the extra game to the schedule.
