New Orleans Saints tight end Benjamin Watson is currently dealing with appendicitis and will most likely miss the NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

However, the good news is that Watson does not need surgery at the moment, indicating that he could be ready for the Super Bowl should the Saints defeat the Rams this weekend.

On the year, Watson hauled in 35 receptions for 400 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

The 38-year-old is in his second stint with New Orleans, signing a one-year deal with the team back in March.

Watson also was a member of the Saints from 2013 through 2015 before signing a two-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens in March 2016. He missed the entire 2016 campaign due to a torn Achilles, but returned the following year to catch 61 passes for 522 yards and four scores in what was a terrific bounceback season.

The Norfolk, Va. native, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was originally selected by the New England Patriots in the first round (32nd pick overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft.

He spent the first six years of his career with the Patriots, but never really broke out. He did have a nice 2006 season in which he snared 49 balls for 643 yards and three touchdowns, but, for the most part, Watson was nothing more than an average tight end during his time with the Pats.

Watson then landed with the Cleveland Browns for three years before making his way to the Saints.
