Sunday's New Orleans Saints vs. Carolina Panthers bout included an unnecessary hit from Cameron Jordan, at least to the perspective of the spectator.

Saints linebacker Demario Davis spun quarterback Kyle Allen to the ground. Jordan tried to get in the play, except he did so after the whistle. He jumped into the action to try to strip the ball, but he missed and instead struck Allen in his face mask while sent the second-year quarterback slipping to the ground. He was flagged for an unnecessary roughness penalty.

After the game, Jordan explained to Pro Football Talk that he was not trying to harm Allen intentionally. Instead, he was playing football.

I’m trying to punch the ball out,” Jordan said. “I’m going full go until I hear the whistle,” he added, emphasizing that there was nothing “malevolent” in his hit on Allen, via Pro Football Talk.

Jordan added that Allen's flop was not precisely what it was. He said to Pro Football Talk, “I called him an actor.” Whether or not Allen did flop is in the eyes of the beholder, and, of course, the quarterback.

Attempted strip or not, Jordan is not likely to get out of the situation with ease. In reality, the Pro Bowl pass-rusher will likely receive a fine from the NFL, especially considering that it was a quarterback that he hit.

Jordan went on to play the rest of the game. His Saints ruled the day too, as kicker Will Lutz made a game-winning field goal to push New Orleans to 9-2 on the season.
