The New Orleans Saints suffered one of the most notable losses in Week 1 of the 2018 NFL at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Needless to say, the final score did not sit right with defensive end Cameron Jordan.

The Saints' defense gave up 41 points in the 48-40 loss. According to Herbie Toepe of NFL.com, Jordan was not pleased with their performance:

“The 48 points we allowed today was unacceptable,” Jordan said.

Jordan added that he shoulders the blame for how the defense played.

“They made more big pays than we did,” Jordan said. “As a defense, you never want to give up 41 points. That's on the defensive line, that's on me. We got a wakeup call for sure.”

Needless to say, there is plenty of truth to Jordan's comments. The offense certainly did their part by putting up 40 points of their own. However, the defense's inability to stop the bleeding ultimately cost them the game.

New Orleans' defense made quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick look like vintage Aaron Rodgers. He completed 21-of-28 passes for 417 yards and four touchdowns through the air while tacking on another 12 rushes for 36 yards and a touchdown.

While Fitzpatrick certainly is no slouch, it is easy for quarterbacks to pick apart defenses when they have all day to throw. The fault lies with the Saints' inability to generate any kind of pressure up front. Of course, that starts with Jordan as the captain of the defensive line. This unit will have a chance to redeem itself at home against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.
