New Orleans Saints wide receiver Cameron Meredith has been a forgotten man in the NFL. Not that he used to be a household name, but he missed the entire 2017 due to ACL and MCL tears in his left knee. Fortunately for Meredith, the Saints were willing to gamble on him, as the team signed the 25-year-old Illinois State product to a two-year, $9.5 million deal back in April.

Meredith’s progress towards a return to the field is trending positively, but he recently sustained another setback in his health after needing time off the field due to an undisclosed injury, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, who reacted to a tweet from the wide receiver.

If it’s any consolation, at least Meredith’s new health issue isn’t related to his knee that needed surgery to get fixed.

Meredith is vying for a wide receiver No. 2 role on the Saints’ depth chart. The team has Michael Thomas and Ted Ginn as the likely starters for that position, and for Meredith, he’ll have to prove first that he’s recovered well enough from his injury. Then again, the Saints would not have signed Meredith if they didn’t believe in him to be ready once the regular season rolls around.

Cameron Meredith went unselected in the 2015 NFL Draft, but landed a contract with the Bears with whom he played he spent his first three seasons in the league. In 25 career games, he has accumulated 1,088 receiving yards, 77 receptions, and four touchdowns.
