Although there has been plenty of talk about MVP frontrunners at this point in the 2019 NFL season, Chad Johnson feels there has not been enough talk about New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas' candidacy.

Thomas is in the midst of yet another historic season in New Orleans. Johnson took to Twitter to help raise awareness about his bid for the league's highest individual honor:

I love what Michael Thomas is doing in New Orleans, I’d like him to win MVP for being CONSISTENT which is hard to do when they’re game planning to stop you each Sunday, defensive coverages are called based on where you line up & you STILL get off

This is certainly some heavy praise coming from Johnson and the prospect of a receiver winning the award may seem far-fetched. However, there is still plenty of truth to his comments.

Despite the changes under quarterback under center this season, Thomas remained as the central force in the offense. He has already racked up 1,141 yards and five touchdowns on 94 receptions through 10 games, which puts him on pace to potentially break the single-season record for receptions and receiving yards.

Perhaps even more impressive is the lack of complementary options the Saints have in their receiving corps. If there was ever a time that a wide receiver was deserving of an award that is usually given to quarterbacks, Thomas definitely makes a case.

Even if Thomas is able to keep up his historic pace, it may be difficult for him to compete with what Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has been able to accomplish this season.
