The New Orleans Saints are going to enter the 2022 season with a number of changes from last year. One of the biggest changes is at head coach. Longtime Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen was promoted to head coach after Sean Payton stepped aside. It will be the first time since the 2005 season that New Orleans has a new head coach on the sidelines.

On Thursday, Allen addressed the media and spoke about his plans for Taysom Hill. Hill, was previously reported to be moved to tight end and would play exclusively there. But that apparently is no longer the case.

Saints writer Jake Culotta Jr. captured his thoughts.

“I look at Taysom Hill as a weapon in a lot of different areas. We talk all the time about position-less players on defense…For Taysom, a multiple position player… in the passing game, at the QB position, on special teams…there’s a ton of places where Taysom Hill can help us win, and we want to utilize him in all those different roles.”

Last season, Jameis Winston tore his ACL, which opened the door for Hill to start at quarterback. He struggled mightily as the every down QB throwing the ball. Clearly, that's not how to best utilize his skillset.

But the Saints have seen in the past how valuable he can be. Hill has rushed for over 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns over the last four seasons. He has almost 2,000 yards passing, and has even almost has 400 yards receiving and seven more touchdowns.

It would be wise to move him all of the field the way Payton used to. It very well might cut into the production of Winston, who is healthy and starting this year. But it forces opponents to have to prepare for more possibilities.
