On Friday, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees showed real progress from his thumb surgery by posting a video to Instagram of him throwing. However, “Breesus” isn't quite ready to return.

I’ve never been through this before,” Brees said on the matter, via John Migler of Saints Wire. “I know what feels normal. It’s not normal yet.”

Previously, reports brewed that Brees would be able to beat his six-week timetable after undergoing thumb surgery. If he is out for the entire expected period, he should be back to play the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8 before their bye week. It doesn't appear as if he will play in Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but could return for Week 7 against the Chicago Bears.

Brees injured his thumb in a Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Rams after his throwing thumb hit Aaron Donald’s hand. The 40-year-old quarterback chose to undergo surgery to repair ligaments in the thumb, which will allow him to rehab and return at a faster rate.

Until Brees comes back, Teddy Bridgewater is the starter in New Orleans. Since taking over as the starter, the 26-year-old has given both the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys their lone losses of the season and beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers handily.

In Bridgewater's three games as a starter, he has gone 68 for 91 for 684 yards, six touchdowns, and a pair of interceptions. In Week 5, against Tampa Bay, he posted a 131.2 passer rating while throwing for four touchdowns. Considering the backup's excellent play, the Saints and Brees should not force a return.
