Future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees made his triumphant return to the New Orleans Saints this past Sunday afternoon en route to leading his team to a blowout victory over the Arizona Cardinals at home. With the team's regular starter under center back in the fold, it was unfortunately back to the bench for fill in Saints starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who kept the surging NFC South franchise afloat — and then some — in the absence of Brees.

Because of what Bridgewater was able to do both on and off the field for the Saints with Brees sidelined due to a lingering thumb injury, the veteran signal-caller recently had some serious praise to heap upon his backup.

“I can’t say enough great things about Teddy and his leadership over the last five weeks,” Brees said during his postgame media availability, via the team's official website. “He basically stepped into the role that I would normally have, as far as addressing the team and addressing skill players and different things throughout the week. He was the starting quarterback and he took on that role. Not just as the guy throwing the ball, handing off the ball, but the guy being in charge of the huddle and being a leader. He did a great job with it.”

With Brees sidelined, Bridgewater started a handful of games while the Saints failed to drop a single game under his direction. Now, New Orleans remains atop the divisional standings with Brees once again healthy.
