Drew Brees is the man that gets the New Orleans Saints offense going. However, his most recent injury may mean that he sits out the next couple of games.

According to Ian Rapaport, the star quarterback has gone to California to talk with a leading medical professional about his hand injury. And by the look of things, the injury doesn't look great:

Brees is the epitome of health ever since he got significant starter's minutes in the league. In fact, he has never missed more than one game of football in a season other than his 2003 season with the San Diego Chargers where he missed five games.

Brees only threw eight attempts against the Los Angeles Rams before walking off the field. Teddy Bridgewater tried everything he could to keep the team in the game, throwing 17-out-of-30 on 165 yards. However, the Rams secondary completely dominated the Brees-less Saints.

The Saints are considered heavy favorites to win the NFC South. However, things could immediately change if their star QB will be out for a considerable amount of time.

USA Today's Jarrett Bell believes that the favorites to advance to Super Bowl LIV will likely struggle if Brees sits on the sidelines for longer.

If it’s a long-term injury, New Orleans’ chances would be hampered when considering the victories needed to secure favorable seeding. The Rams (2-0) now have a tiebreaker edge over the Saints — whose next two games are against two more NFC unbeatens in the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys.

Saints fans hope that their star man won't take too long for his thumb to heal. If he is counted out for weeks, they might struggle to even make it to the postseason.
