The New Orleans Saints got ousted earlier than they had hoped in the playoffs after losing to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With questions remaining about long-time quarterback Drew Brees' future with the team, the Saints have decided to make an interesting adjustment to his salary.

It's a rather unprecedented move by both the Saints and Brees and leaves the team with financial flexibility whether he decides to play or not.

Brees played the past couple of seasons with a number of injuries and various reports came out that he has played his last game in the NFL, but Brees has made no announcement of any sort.

The Saints free up cap space and Brees has a little more time to make his decision without impacting the free agency moves or compromising the future of the team, although head coach Sean Payton must be curious who will be throwing passes in Louisiana next season.

Brees missed a chunk of the regular season and still finished with 2,942 yards and 24 touchdowns as the Saints captured the second seed in the NFC.

The Saints might be in the market for another quarterback and many draft analysts have a rookie slated to them in the first round, albeit a lot of that will change depending on whether or not Brees plays next season.

Of course, let's not forget about Payton's favorite weapon, Taysom Hill, who started a few games for the Saints in 2020.
