The New Orleans Saints were finally able to welcome back quarterback Drew Brees in their Week 8 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. He returned in spectacular fashion in a 31-9 victory over Arizona.

Brees had been sidelined since Week 2 while dealing with a right thumb injury. He is admittedly happy he was able to return as soon as possible, via Saints reporter John Hendrix:

“Felt good. Felt really good. The last five weeks have been hard.”

Said this was the week he had in mind, doctors said after the bye week.

Brees was initially slated to come back after the team's bye in Week 9. However, Brees was optimistic about beating the timetable and was seemingly adamant about coming back in time for their home tilt against the Cardinals. Any concern of the veteran coming back sooner than expected quickly went out the window after he completed 34-of-43 passes for 373 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception.

There had been plenty of speculation regarding the Saints' plans under center when Brees came back. Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater had done a stellar job by leading them to a 5-0 record in Brees' absence, and his play had started to pick up as he got his rhythm in the offense.

Fortunately, Drew Brees was able to provide a reminder of why he is the clear-cut starter. New Orleans can also take solace in the fact that it has a surplus of talent at quarterback moving forward and into the postseason.
