The New Orleans Saints lost to the Los Angeles Rams by a final score of 27-9 in the rematch of the 2018 NFC Championship Game. Unfortunately, losing the game wasn't the only loss that the Saints suffered. Drew Brees was injured fairly early in the game and his thumb could be a major problem.

According to a report from Josina Anderson of ESPN, Brees will see a hand specialist soon and is concerned that the injury may be “significant.”

Losing Brees would be a massive blow for the Saints, who are currently considered to be one of the top Super Bowl contenders in the NFC. Their offense looked completely lost without him and even superstar running back Alvin Kamara couldn't get anything going with Brees not on the field.

Teddy Bridgewater will likely take over as the starter if Brees is forced to miss time. He stepped in and completed 17 of his 30 pass attempts for 165 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions. Those numbers are not going to get the job done for a serious contender.

New Orleans can only hope that the specialist gives Brees good news. Whenever a player has so much concern about an injury being serious, it usually isn't a good sign.

No report has come out about when Brees will see the specialist or which specialist he will be going to, but that will likely come out in the near future. New Orleans can only hold their breath for good news.
