Earlier this week, former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton announced he was stepping down from the team. There had been some speculation that that might happen, but most pundits still did not believe it would come to fruition. Well, it did. He left.

During his press conference, Payton mentioned that he was likely not retiring, but but that he was not planning on coaching in 2022. He was looking for a change.

On Thursday, Payton appeared on “The Dan Patrick Show” and talked about his future. During the interview, he acknowledged that two NFL clubs had already reached out to him regarding their open head coaching positions. However, Payton did not disclose which teams had expressed interest via back channels.

He apparently has been propositioned by multiple television outlets also.

“I'm not looking at that path right now. I don't think i'm finished coaching. But I was excited to get two or three calls from people in the TV industry.”

Numerous reports had connected Payton to the Dallas Cowboys. Reportedly, the Cowboys had a trade in place a couple of years ago for the future Hall of Fame coach. But that fell apart.

Payton ended his tenure with the Saints with a career record of 152-89, which is highly impressive. He, along with Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees, led New Orleans to a Super Bowl victory in 2009.

There are numerous potential landing spots for Payton, with so many vacancies this offseason. A few were filled earlier on Thursday, but the other shoe is yet to drop on what his actual plans are.
