The New Orleans Saints managed to sign one of the top names left on the open market on Monday, bringing Tyrann Mathieu back to his hometown after reaching an agreement in free agency. ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter has now reported the terms of the deal, indicating that Mathieu will be headed to New Orleans on a three-year deal worth $33 million.

The deal is yet to be finalized but figures to go through once Mathieu puts pen to paper. As part of his agreement with the Saints, Mathieu will earn $18 million in guaranteed money and get the opportunity to play in the city in which he grew up.

Last year with the Chiefs, Mathieu made his second consecutive Pro Bowl. The soon-to-be 30-year-old started 16 games, recording 76 tackles, 3 interceptions, 6 pass defenses, and 3 fumble recoveries.

After the Saints saw Marcus Williams bolt for Baltimore in free agency, they managed to fill his void with the next best option in Mathieu. The loss of Williams was a huge blow, but one that was expected when the Saints allowed him to hit free agency. Williams signed a five-year, $70 million deal with the Ravens, a huge contract for the star safety. While the Saints were priced out of Williams' market, they managed to get an excellent replacement in Mathieu, at less than half the cost.

The Saints will hope Mathieu can maintain his current level of production throughout the duration of his new deal with the team, though it's worth noting he'll be 32 in the final year of the contract.
