New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston has undergone surgery to repair his left knee, but there's some sort of good news that came out of it.

No, Winston still won't be coming back any time soon as he needs at least six months to rehab before starting non-contact drills. The good news, however, is that his MCL didn't have to be repaired.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Winston underwent surgery to fix his torn left ACL. He also has damage in his MCL, but his surgeon Dr. Neil ElAttrache determined it is still strong enough to heal by itself. The 27-year-old is now rehabbing in Los Angeles, with his recovery schedule putting him well on track to return in time for the 2022 training camp.

Jameis Winston suffered the knee injury during their Week 8 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His absence has been a huge blow to the Saints, who have now lost their two games without the starting QB. It has also allowed the Buccaneers to surpass them in the NFC South despite winning their previous showdown.

Prior to his injury, Winston has been playing really solid football. Before the Tampa Bay game, he had already recorded 1114 yards and 13 touchdowns on a 58.94 percent pass completion. What's even more noteworthy was that he only had three interceptions to lead the Saints to a 4-2 start.

The Saints will just be happy to know that Winston avoided further complication. Now, they just need to wait for his return in hopes of getting the job done—though he will be a free agent this spring.
