While Jameis Winston remained in the NFC South, signing with the New Orleans Saints, it appears he'll be starting fresh in a variety of ways. Upon officially signing his contract with the Saints, Winston has chosen to wear the No. 2 jersey next season.

After it was reported that Winston was headed to New Orleans, there was some chatter on what number he would wear. During his college days at Florida State, Winston wore the No. 5 jersey. Then, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Winston decided to wear No. 3.

Of course, Will Lutz, the placekicker for the Saints, already possesses the No. 3 jersey in New Orleans. Lutz, upon hearing of Winston joining the team, reached out to the newly-signed quarterback, setting a price for the number.

Rather than striking a deal for the No. 3 jersey, Winston wants to begin anew, choosing to wear the No. 2 jersey in 2020. The 26-year-old quarterback said that he's always wanted to wear No. 2 since high school. However, some guy named Deion Sanders prevented that from happening at Florida State.

Also, before Winston signed with the Saints, rookie Tommie Stevens was originally listed as having the No. 2 jersey. Whether Winston negotiated a deal with Stevens remains to be seen. With Winston taking No. 2, Stevens will be rocking the No. 1 jersey in his rookie campaign.

Without a doubt, Winston is attempting to wipe the slate clean and give himself a chance to start again in 2021. While he learns under Drew Brees for a year, Winston will be sporting the No. 2 jersey, a number he's longed to wear his entire football career.
