New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has received a lot of heat the last couple of days for his comments on kneeling during the National Anthem. Joe Horn, Brees' former teammate has heard all the comments. but knows the future Hall of Famer isn't racist.

Horn told Jeff Duncan of The Athletic that he is close with Brees, and until everyone has gotten to really know him like he has, people need to pump the brakes on calling him racist.

“They definitely need to pump the brakes on labeling him a racist,” Horn said, per Duncan. “I know Drew Brees. Drew has done a lot to help black families and the black community in New Orleans. If Drew Brees didn’t love black families and low-income families he wouldn’t have helped the way he has over the years. People that are criticizing him like LeBron James and other celebrities don’t know him.

“They need to check his resume. I love my race. And I love New Orleans to death. But I know Drew Brees. And Drew is a good person. And until you have walked beside him and gotten to know him, his wife and family, you definitely have to give him a pass on this one and allow Drew a chance to think about what he said and come back and make this right. And I know he will.”

Brees has since apologized for his comments saying he missed the mark with what he said. There has been some like Horn who have jumped to Brees' defense to apologize to him, but others including teammates were clearly frustrated. Malcolm Jenkins was one of the first to speak out against Brees comments, but he later accepted his apology. This will probably continue to be a talking point leading up to the season.
